Upstand spike systems
Bird spikes provide excellent bird proofing by making surfaces hard or unpleasant to land on, therefore preventing roosting. Usually made from a plastic basing, they comprise of metal spikes that stick outwards and upwards. Bird spikes are attached to a building, being glued to a surface or fixed directly by nails or screws. Bird and pigeon spikes come in a variety of sizes and strengths for a range of bird types. Pestbgone will provide advice on which system is suitable in your situation.
Typically bird spikes can be used on walls, ledges, roofs, gutters, on top of CCTV cameras and commercial signs and work effectively as a deterrent for birds perching on the surfaces. No harm comes to the birds because they don’t actually come into contact with the spikes. This is why bird spikes are recommended as one of the best bird deterrents by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds).
Post and sprung wire systems
A post and wire system is made of several wires strung between stainless steel posts. The tensioned wires provide a barrier that stops birds from landing on the surface underneath. Because the system includes shock absorbing springs it is a very resilient to damage. Wires also create an uncomfortable moving platform for birds, resulting in an effective bird control system. Like spikes, the posts can be glued or fixed with nails or screws into the surface.
Bird wire acts as an effective solution for preventing birds like seagulls, crows and pigeons landing and causing a nuisance. You will tend to find bird wire being used on the edge of rooftops, window sills, parapets, beams, pipes, balustrades and they are frequently used to protect historic buildings and stately homes as this system can get passed for listed buildings.
Bird netting
At Ants Pests we provide high quality netting services. This method comprises of nylon netting, fixed to a wire rope support frame that is pre-tensioned. The result is an extremely strong net that no bird can pass through. Birds also find the net very difficult for them to land or perch on.
Nets are fixed to the ground using a multitude of methods, with masonry bolts and clamp systems mostly commonly used. Sometimes further support structures might need constructing for additional wiring. All components and fittings are either stainless steel or galvanised for guaranteed long life.
Bird netting is a highly effective and low profile solution to pest bird infestations. It creates a physical barrier and prevents them from entering areas that need to be protected.
Bird netting is used in many locations including sports stadiums, warehouse ceilings, bridges, underpasses, gardens, to protect crops, eaves and rafters of buildings, domestic properties, factories etc. They offer a humane solution to any bird control problems that you may be facing.
Without netting, birds can cause significant damage to properties, contaminate buildings with their excrement, and be a general nuisance. Bird netting is highly efficient and a very affordable way of dealing with this problem so if you are experiencing a bird control problem then please do not hesitate to contact us.
Bird and pigeon netting is very effective in preventing access to recesses, alcoves and balconies which are usually hard to protect effectively using other methods. The bird netting is inconspicuous when viewed from a head on angle so there is no need to worry about how the environment will look, you will hardly notice the net being there.
At Ants Pests we have worked on many bird netting projects and have helped both home owners and business owners deal with their bird control problems. Our expert team can advise you on the best course of action to take and will be happy to survey the site where you are experiencing the problem and provide you with a cost effective and permanent solution. Seagull Control
Gulls are becoming an increasing problem in the UK year on year. Populations of gulls have grown significantly, especially in urban areas, where they have been extremely successful in adapting to the environment. There are several reasons for this:
• The large volume of buildings provides safe nesting environments away from predators.
• Plenty of waste food available for them to eat around bins, public waste sites etc
• City and town centres stay relatively warm during winter months so they don’t need to migrate.
The growing legions of gulls have brought with them a set of problems that on many occasions we have had to deal with. These problems include:
• Noise caused by calling gulls
• Build up of excrement causing significant health and safety hazards
• Dive-bombing and swooping on people and pets that can cause significant injury
• Blocking gas flues with their nesting activity
• Blocking gutters causing costly flood damage
• Generally damage to property
Gulls also carry several diseases which can cause significant health problems for humans such as E.coli, salmonella and listeria.
At Ants Pests we have many years experience in dealing with the problem that Seagulls can cause and we have a variety of preventative measures that can be used. This includes:
• Hawking Control
• Upstand spike systems
• Bird proofing net systems
• Scarers
• Agrilaser control
Each situation is different so if you are experiencing problems with gulls, then contact us so that we can advise the right solution. We will survey the situation for you and advice on the best action to take.
